Head of Group – Controls and Instrumentation – Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing – Permanent

Our client, based in Derby, is looking to grow its Leadership Team and recruit a Head of Group within the Controls and Instrumentation division. They are looking for someone with strong leadership skills who can engage with industry partners to increase the coverage of the projects and to ensure that as many businesses as possible benefit from the research and development carried out by their team.

This role marries the R&D element of academia with the expertise of industry, so to be successful in this role you will need to have experience within both areas.

This role will be an integral part of the leadership team, reporting to the Programme Director. You will work closely with senior members of staff and engage with key external bodies to build the organisation’s profile and professional network.

You will work on growing the Controls & Instrumentation Group’s capability – skills, technology, digitization, hardware and software expertise – to advance the research in relevant industry sectors.

In order to increase research turnover, you will be able to plan and control change, as well as set out coherent funding plans which will allow the Control & Instrumentation group to build on reputation and demonstrate high impact and relevance in industry.

Person Specification:

Technical engineering degree in a relevant subject and preferably a PhD or equivalent research experience
Experience with high-integrity C&I systems in hazardous industries, such as; Nuclear, Chemical, Aerospace, Oil & Gas, Rail etc
Proven track record of bringing n area based project work and providing Partners with confidence and value from their engagements
Highly experienced in the application of, and delivery of continuous improvement tools & techniques, and as a leader, can inspire other to adopt these practises.
Able to confidently represent your organisation to a diverse range of stakeholders and local SMEs
Knowledge of relevant systems, policies, legislation and quality standards including Health and Safety
Able to identify and plan for the recruitment of key skills/personnel into the group
An effective leader who manages resources aligning the day-to-day work and goals of the team with the organisation’s strategic vision
Ability to analyse and solve problems with an appreciation of longer-term implications and performance of the Control & Instrumentation group
Able to demonstrate robust leadership skills, along with strong emotional intelligence and excellent listening skills in order to foster effective professional relationships
Understanding of UK and international regulation and standards for Nuclear
Experience of reviewing individual/team progress and performance and embedding organisational strategy into individual performance planning
Chartered Engineer status
Member of relevant and recognised professional body

Salary and Benefits:

£51, 630 – £58, 089 per annum, rising to £67, 317 with exceptional contribution
